As an example of the temperature roller coaster, we were over fifty degrees Fahrenheit when we got up on Sunday morning. Today, twenty four hours later, the morning temperature was just about thirty degrees or twenty degrees cooler.
We took a trip to Pine Knoll Shores to visit the NC Aquarium, and it was sixty-four degrees Fahrenheit when we went into the Museum. When we came out it was too cool for the hike that we had planned. Our visit is recorded in more detail at this link on the Crystal Coast Electronic Village. We did get a family membership so that we can visit on a more regular basis.
I also posted a few slides of the museum, but it is very hard to appreciate the beautiful swimming fish from some slides.

The weather and winds have been such that few boats have been going out. We are lucky though. My friend who leaves on the New Jersey coast says they are having gusts up to fifty miles per hour today.
From weather wanderings, I suspect they are due to the blizzard that is hitting the Canadian Maritimes.
The Halifax, NS paper records this as the 11th storm of the year for the winter-dazed Maritimers who have seen temperatures as low as minus forty this winter.
Accuweather said the snow might be blinding in parts of Maine and New Brunswick where up to eighteen inches are expected.
I doubt their blizzard will bring any more excitement than our big inauguration day snow storm. I must state that I do not have snow envy.

As my wife likes to tell me, it is still winter so we have to put up with some cold weather, low tides, and wind.
That has not stopped us from getting out some. We just have not done a beach walk in a while.
It was warm enough to get us out on the White Oak one day for some early fishing. It ended up being more of an afternoon the make certain our tackle was all working.
It seems we have spent more time up near Morehead City this month than normal. We have managed to visit the new Harris Teeter Grocery twice.
I continue to be impressed with number of stores and services being added on the western side of Morehead City in the area between Highways 70 and 24.
With the shopping area of Morehead City less than twenty minutes from our home in Bluewater Cove we have pretty reasonable access to all the services and restaurants that one would expect these days.
We are headed to Panera for a late lunch today. Yesterday I noticed that construction of the Morehead City Chick-Fil-A must be nearly finished.
It was a brisk day there, and everyone was bundled up. I will wait for warmer weather myself.
The water in the White Oak has been very clear which prompted me to do this post on oysters.
Yesterday we dropped by Beaufort for a visit at the Maritime Museum. For those of you who have never been, this is a great spot to get out of the weather for a couple of hours. It is one of my favorite spots. My slide show does not do it justice.
I have been thinking about why people should consider the Crystal Coast as a place to live.

An article in Canada’s Globe and Mail got me to thinking about my years in Canada.
Last week I managed to get pretty excited about all of the new technology that continues to amaze me and especially how online software is surpassing what is on our computers.
Finally I will be giving a seminar at the Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Center at 7 PM on March 25 on digital scrapbooks and getting your photos on the web.

Why we love it here?
It is hard to say that any place is perfect. There always a balance between what you like and what you don't like. That also changes as you age. At one time I was close to homesteading in Newfoundland.
Today I would steer you to my articles, Ten ways Carteret County met our needs, Why I love living in Carteret County, and to the Crystal Coast Electronic Village Homepage as answers to why we have chosen this area.
From that reading it is easy to understand why we enjoy living in a small subdivision called Bluewater Cove near Cape Carteret. It is what we were looking for in a place to live. It's close to services and close to the beach but not on the beach. We have a dock behind the house and are close to some great trails. I can ride my bike in the neighborhood and not face a lot of traffic.
I also use my kayak on the White Oak River and have learned to love exploring the river and surrounding waters with our skiff.
This area also has some great festivals like the Newport Pig Cookoff, the Emerald Isle Saint Patrick's Day, and the Swansboro Oyster Roast. We were also impressed with the Emerald Isle Christmas Parade.
It is a friendly area with a great future. So right now it is the spot for us. I often write about the area in my other websites. If you are a very avid reader, you might find some content on multiple sites, but usually the content is fairly specific to the sites.
